Mini March Madness, a fifth grade basketball tournament, celebrated its 11th year recently, displaying a great partnership and sense of teamwork between the Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) and the City of Carlsbad Recreation Department while incorporating the T.R.U.S.T. (Teaching Respect, Unity, and Sportsmanship through Teamwork) code of ethics.

Each team was comprised of fifth grade boys and girls from all nine elementary schools in CUSD – Aviara Oaks, Buena Vista, Calavera Hills, Hope, Jefferson, Kelly, Magnolia, Pacific Rim, and Poinsettia. The winners for the year were the girls team from Poinsettia and the boys team from Pacific Rim. Each player earned a medal and a trophy for their school.
