Social Media Maven

These days it’s important for organizations to have a social media presence. That’s where Dana Ebete comes in. As the social media coordinator for the Calavera Hills Elementary (CHE) PTA, Dana is able to give the school the exposure it needs. “I manage both the Facebook and Instagram accounts for the school. We post pertinent school information, reminders, and pictures of everyday life at CHE,” Dana said. “We post pictures from the fun run, spirit days like crazy hair or sock day, and field trips. Sometimes it’s a picture of a science experiment they are doing in class or advertising about special events happening at the school.”

This type of volunteering is perfect for Dana’s schedule, as she works full-time. “The traditional ways of volunteering in a classroom during the day aren’t an option for me,” she shared. “Parents, teachers and even Principal Fuentes can email or text me with pictures, flyers, and information they need posted. It has helped create a connection to the school for me and my family.” Dana hopes that other parents will find connections with their own kids through her work. “As a parent, when you try to ask your child ‘what did you do today?’ we more than likely will get the typical response of ‘nothing.’ It’s nice to see occasional pictures from what they are doing and use that as a jumping-off point for conversations,” she said.

Dana has lived in Calavera Hills for the past 10 years. “I enjoy living here because it is a large community, but still has some small town characteristics. The people are so friendly and you often see familiar faces on the soccer fields, grocery store, or the park,” she related. She has been married to her husband, Donn, for 10 years as well. Together they are parents to a son, Nixon, and a daughter, Naomi. Besides working full-time and volunteering for the PTA, Dana keeps busy with the children’s activities of soccer, basketball, flag football, and dance. She can often be found outdoors and exploring different places in the area.
