The World’s Fastest 5K Run, the Carlsbad 5000, returned for its 33rd year in late March. More than 10,000 runners of all ages and abilities from all over the world gathered to participate in the event in the oceanfront streets of downtown Carlsbad. The race is a renowned event, holding 16 world records and eight U.S. records. Sweden’s Kalle Berglund and Britain’s Emilia Gorecka won the Carlsbad 5000 road race during the main event.

The run was a weekend-long event, with activities during both days. Junior Carlsbad kicked off the cool, breezy weekend with a morning of kids’ races as a precursor to the main event. Both days featured refreshments, prizes, live entertainment, and a free outdoor Health & Fitness Expo which included vendors showcasing running apparel, fitness gear, and health and nutrition items.
