Ocean Waves & Farm Living
For Anne and Chad Majer, Carlsbad is a perfect place to live, not only because of the small-town beach feel, but also because of their ability to merge the perks of coastal living with life on a farm. The couple lives in a three-story geodesic dome located on historic Highland Drive. According to Anne, the geodesic dome was built in 1980, during the hey-day of that particular architectural style. “On our property, we have our own mini-farm with a pig, four cats, and six chickens. In fact, we love taking our pig, Sadie, around Carlsbad. She especially loves the patio at Pizza Port,” related Anne, who also reported that she and Chad are currently building their own tiki bar and restaurant in their backyard.
These two proud Carlsbad residents both have successful careers that keep them busy and fulfilled. Anne is the director of marketing and communication at Cathedral Catholic High School, her alma mater. “Before that I worked for the San Diego Padres, Clear Channel Radio/iHeart Radio, and Mighty 1090 Sports Talk Radio. It was a perfect fit, though, for me to return to my alma mater. I also give back to Cathedral by volunteering with students to support a variety of charities,” said Anne. Chad works at the corporate headquarters of the Electra Bicycle Company, where he is currently the technical services manager for the Electra Brand. He is also partial owner in a bicycle lifestyle and event company called One Big Club. Chad also feels strongly about giving back to the community. He and a few other locals recently started a nonprofit called Bikes 4 the Barrio. The group raises money to provide bicycles for local children.
Although Anne and Chad both attended the University of Arizona, they didn’t meet until 16 years later at Union Kitchen & Tap in Encinitas. “Chad was wearing a U of A hat, and we started talking about the Wildcats,” revealed Anne with a smile. The couple was married during the summer of 2017 at Leo Carrillo Ranch in Carlsbad. “We selected the venue after taking a walking tour of the ranch. We loved the history. Chad was a working cowboy for many years and could relate to Leo Carrillo himself. We had family and friends come from all over the county and country for our wedding. We truly love Carlsbad, and it will always be our home,” stated Anne.
