Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Runs for Awareness
Annual Tip Top Run
The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation (AHLF) recently held its Annual Tip Top Run, themed Leprechaun Dash and Bash for the Saint Patrick’s Day holiday. The walk and fun run had a 5K course and a 10K course, both ending at the AHLF’s Discovery Center in Carlsbad. The Tip Top Run was meant to celebrate the eradication of Caulerpa taxifolia, a species of seaweed, as well as raise awareness about the lagoon as one of the area’s most amazing natural resources.
The event, presented by Poseidon Water, attracted more than 400 participants and 65 volunteers who braved the rainy weather to enjoy the 5k and 10k walk and run. After the run, attendees celebrated with family-fun activities, lunch from Tip Top Meats, live music, World Water Day exhibitors/vendors, and drinks for everyone. Bob Yehling won the 5K walk/run and Michelle Ven Huizen won the 10K walk/run.
Approximately $30,000 was raised at the event, which will help the AHLF’s educational programs reach 10,000 elementary school children in 2018. The AHLF has been dedicated to preserving and protecting valuable natural resources. For more information about the lagoon and to see upcoming events, visit www.aguahedionda.org.
