Upgrades Revealed as Part of Parks Master Plans
According to plans approved by the City Council, the City of Carlsbad will be adding new features and amenities to three community parks in the Carlsbad area. Upcoming improvements include the creation of an outdoor gathering space and a small amphitheater at Aviara Community Park, the addition of an indoor recreational facility and comunity garden at Pine Avenue Community Park, and the construction of a community center at Poinsettia Community Park.v
These plans resulted from a two-year process in which the city gathered input from the community to formulate a plan for Carlsbad’s future park system and recreation programs. Parks & Recreation Director Chris Hazeltine said, “What we wanted to do was take a very thoughtful look to make sure what we put forward in these master plans was what the community wanted to see today. Some of the existing plans were over 20 years old, and we wanted to make sure that they were current and timely.”
The creation of a community space at Aviara Park will include family picnic areas, walkways, landscaped paths, decorative seat walls and fire pits, and a small community room with warming kitchen and food and beverage service. Improvements at Pine Avenue will include an indoor recreational space, a teen center, fitness space, a landscaped garden and activity center, as well as lounges, offices, storage, and rooftop court space for sports. Poinsettia Park will see a new community recreation center, sports arena, a few changes to the playgrounds, and a new off-lease dog park with separate areas for small and large dogs.
