The City of Carlsbad recently started construction on a new fire station near the intersection of El Camino Real and Canon Rd. which will replace the current Fire Station 3 at the corner of Chestnut Ave. and Catalina Dr. The new station will consist of 10,400 square feet with approximately 5,200 square feet for living, training, administration, and three drive-through bays to accomodate a 63-foot-long aerial ladder truck. It will house five firefighter/paramedics, a fire engine, an ambulance, and a wildland fire appartatus, with the possibility of additional equipment in the future. Carlsbad Fire Division Chief Mike Lopez said, “We know we can’t start to change the outcome of events until we get on scene, and we know the sooner we get there the sooner we can start to make a difference. The new Fire Station 3 is one step in allowing us to better serve our community.”
