Carlsbad High School’s (CHS) Lancer Dancers will be performing in their annual dance showcase Dec. 11 through Dec. 13 at the Carlsbad Cultural Arts Center (CCAC). The ten-time national champions will perform a variety of routines in jazz, hip-hop, pom, lyrical, and other genres they have been working on this year. When asked about the showcase, Lancer Dancers Booster Club President Michelle Ginn said, “This special annual program is a great opportunity for family, friends, and the community to experience first-hand the elite level of talent the Lancer Dancers work so diligently to achieve.”

Other dance groups invited to perform include the Carlsbad High School Xcalibur Junior Varsity Dance Team, Carlsbad High School Dance PE 1, 2, and 3 classes, the Aviara Middle School Dance Team, and the El Camino High School Dance Team. And back by popular demand, the “Mancer” Dancers will also be making an appearance.

Another highlight will be the performance by the Junior Lancer Dancers, a group of girls ages 5 to 14 that take classes given by the Lancer Dancers during the fall. The showcase gives them the opportunity to perform what they learned over their ten-week class.

Proceeds from the showcase will help to fund in part the costs of travel to the Universal Dance Association’s (UDA) National Championships in Orlando, FL. UDA Nationals is the nation’s premier competition for high-school dance squads, with approximately 600 different teams from public, private, and performing arts high schools competing each year. The Lancer Dancers have earned thirteen national titles in the jazz or hip-hop categories. In recent years, by making the finals, the team has received national television exposure on ESPN, reaching up to ninety million viewers and serving as teen ambassadors for the City of Carlsbad.
